Sasikala S

Born in Cochin, Kerala Sasikala started her career in dance with Mohiniyattam. Later her affection towards Kathakali led her to be associated with the Kathakali maestro Kalamandalam E. Vasudevan Nair. She later received intensive training for her advanced studies from the late Padmashree Shri. Kalamandalam Krishnan Nair. She had performed with all the stalwarts of Kathakali in leading roles of the story always. Her Lalita, Mohini, Chitralekha, Kunti  and Damayanti are still alive in the audience’s pulse. An ‘A’ grade artist in Thiruvananthapuram Doordarshan, Sasikala bagged many prizes in the University festivals of Kerala during her collage days. She is a post-graduate in Commerce. Different scholars and notable personalities of the country, including the former Prime Minister Shri. Atal Bihari Vajpayee, former President of India Late Giani Zail Singh and others have witnessed her performances. On 2007 she led the Kathakali team to Kingdom of Bahrain to perform ‘Poothapattu’ Kathakali (adaptation of  Poet Edasseri’s famous work ‘Poothapattu’) under the patronage of Indian Embassy and India Fine Arts Society, Bahrain. She has participated in 2010 - 2011 Soorya Festival  in Thiruvananthapuram. Sasikala has conducted a Kathakali workshop and Kathakali show for Kuwait Malayalee Association in June 2011. She performed Kathakali and Mohiniyattom jugal bandhi at Hong Kong for the Malayali Association of Art and Culture (MAAC) in  May 2014. Apart from the stage performances she organizes cultural programme for the Tourism Department and cultural organizations in India and abroad.
